A Brief Report of the

Annual Parochial Church Meeting

The Annual Parochial Church Meeting took place on Sunday 20 April in the Church Hall chaired by the Vicar.  Celia Francis and Glyn Jones were appointed as Churchwardens.  Suzie Pepperell and Rosemary Coath were appointed as Deputy Churchwardens.

The minutes of the last meeting were accepted and signed.  There were no matters arising.  There are currently 105 on the Electoral Roll, but this is set to increase in the next few months with the addition of new confirmands.  Irene Mallinson has resigned from the Deanery Synod and Jeanne Fry has recently died, leaving us with no representative on the Deanery Synod.  John proposed a vote of thanks to both Irene and Jeanne for their work in the past and asked for any volunteers to come forward.

Due to Jeanne’s death and two resignations from the PCC this year, there were three vacancies on the PCC.  We received three nominations for new members as follows:

-James Hey (Proposed by Glyn Jones, Seconded by Calvin Man).
-Kate Burnside (Proposed by Maureen Price, Seconded by Charlotte Pepperell)
-Sau-Wah Man (Proposed by Rosemary Coath, Seconded by Hilda Highley).

The current Sidesmen have agreed to continue for the coming year.

Suzie Pepperell gave the Fabric Report.  Many jobs have been carried out to update the Church and Hall facilities.  The Quinquennial inspection is in hand and there will doubtless be repairs required when the report has been completed.  Jane Barnett asked if the strip of flooring in the central aisle of the Church could be varnished to match the rest of the church floor – the Wardens agreed to address this.  George Davison asked the Wardens to confirm that the boilers comply with safety regulations – the Wardens explained that the boilers are up-to-date with safety checks and servicing.

John drew the parishioner’s attention to the parish activities report and expressed his thanks to all who have been involved with event planning, management and implementation.

John also drew the parishioner’s attention to the deanery synod report written by Irene and Jeanne.  It was noted that our church has been implementing many innovative and interesting events, which have interested the other churches in the deanery.

Suzanne Greenaway went through the annual report and financial statement and clarified one or two points.  She informed the parishioners that she is prepared to see this year out as Treasurer, but that she will be resigning as of 31 December 2008.  The accounts were formally adopted.  A vote of thanks was made to Suzanne for her hard work and patience.   Clifford Smith as Auditor was thanked and re-appointed for the next year.

John gave his annual review and outlined the priorities for 2008 which included the Parish Funding & Regeneration Programme, replacement of the pews with chairs and development of the church’s potential for income generating community activities.

Glyn Jones reported that the youth worker scheme is now trying to attract a Christian gap year student, to be line managed by Julia Jones.  Ann Ashby has resigned from arranging the bell-ringing.  The bell ropes are to be relocated to the base of the tower and the parish will advertise for volunteers once this has been done.  George Davison suggested that a ‘The way to St Christopher’s church’ sign should be erected at the junction of Manor Road North and Claygate Lane.  The wardens agreed to look into this.

Christopher Gill proposed a vote of thanks to John Kronenberg and Philippa which was unanimously supported by the parishioners.
