Iceland 2007

We had a fantastic and special time in Iceland, both collectively and individually.

It has been a trip of ‘firsts’ and also a wonderful opportunity to strengthen friendships. The time that we all spent together visiting  Jokulsarlon, where icebergs are floating in a massive lagoon and the day that we all flew over to the Westmann Islands  will stay in all of our memories for ever. I know that the wonderful welcome provided for Audrey, Norman, Ann, Irene, George, Helen, Jeanne and John by Bjarni Bjarnason made a huge impression. The group were treated to an Icelandic lunch and a tour of his church in the suburbs of Reykjavik.

Key Memories?

The wonderful Icelandic people, the space and wilderness.

Geothermal power!

Walking in crampons.

So many puffins!

Seeing a whale.

Eating lava bread baked in the volcano.

John’s ‘paddling’ experience.

Seeing seals from your kayak

Sailing between the icebergs

Ellie’s lost luggage

Sleeping out in the tent

24 hour daylight

What Next?

Have a look at the photographs of our trip at the back of the church.

We are going to plant trees on the Westmann Islands.

We are planning a commemorative ‘window’ inside the church featuring a glass cross brought from Iceland.
