Vision for the Future
The beginning of each year feels like a very significant time for St. Christopher’s to renew and recommit to a plan of who we are and who we want to be in 5-10 years time. We had begun this process in January 2020 by surveying our congregations and trying to reach out to everyone we could to gather information about how we impact our community and what we could do to focus our resources. January 2020 turned out not to be such a good time to start!
However, since our last incumbent left at Easter, we have begun the process again and drawn on the resources of the Diocese of Guildford to guide us through this process.
When you set out on a journey like this you cannot predict what the destination will become, but it will definitely have some of the following features:
Discipleship – As a church we are committed to “making prayerful, confident disciples in daily life”, but how do we turn this aspiration into action continues to be challenging, and discipleship is difficult to measure.
Community Partnership – We are committed to being visible in our local community and to forming partnerships to help create a safer, stronger, fairer and more sustainable society.
Leadership – As a voluntary organisation we are committed to increasing leaders of all ages, who are called, trained and deployed in our church and community to address the needs of our church, community and beyond.
Any strategic planning requires prayer, openness, creativity and commitment. Now that we are in a vacancy we are planning to take the time necessary to explore a new vision in a deep and meaningful way, remembering that the church is an organisation which exists for the benefit of its non-members.
